GRAND TOWER (WSIL) -- Many communities throughout southern Illinois were impacted by flooding last spring and some towns are still trying to recover.
One of those communities is Grand Tower right along the Mississippi river where continuous rain and seep water had a major impact.
Many sink holes began popping up with damage to roadways and underground infrastructure; now estimated to cost millions to repair.
Life-long resident Jennifer Glodo held a fundraiser called Mardi Gras in the Bottoms to help raise funds.
Attendees enjoyed food catered by Fazoli's, music from The Holler Boys and a raffle with lots of prizes donated from local businesses.
Altogether, $4,500 was raised from the event.
Glodo says its about wanting to keep her hometown safe and looking its best.
"Unfortunately we do live in a flood area, but you clean up your home," she explains. "When this happens, we have to get behind it and get it back in working order. "
Glodo adds that the Holler Boys not only donated their time by playing the event for free, but also donated half the sales from merchandise sold that night.
Members of the band are from Grand Tower and surrounding communities.
