EQUALITY (WSIL) -- A project two years in the making, came to life Saturday morning.
A ribbon cutting ceremony marking the grand opening of 276 Art Exchange took place.
It's a collaboration between Gallatin County tourism, the village of Equality and the Ohio River Scenic Byway.
The retail space sells fine art and heritage crafts created by regional artists and is looking to provide visitors with another opportunity to learn more about southern Illinois.
Organizer Ella York says the project relied on the hard work of volunteers.
"This project really shows when you have a whole bunch of people who are passionate about what they do coming together, then you can create something this cool," she explains.
The Art Exchange will keep new pieces in the gallery by rotating work by artists throughout the region and welcomes new artists to share their pieces as well.
The not-for-profit is open each week at varying times Friday-Sunday as those are busy days for other area attractions.
