Organization to provide free fresh food and information at Carbondale Farmer's Market

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An organization at a local famer's market will help supply customers fresh fruits and vegetables...for free!

The Meridian Health Plan of Illinois will be on hand at the Carbondale Farmer's Market on Saturday, September 14, where they will be celebrating their Customer Appreciation Day.

The organization will provide free food samples, food demos and vouchers for free food.

Meridian Health Plan of Illinois states they are making an effort to improve access to healthy, nutritious foods to visitors. The organization states they are promoting whole-person health for their members in communities where fresh food isn't always easily accessible.

At the farmer's market, they will have health awareness materials and fresh food vouchers, next to the cooking demonstration area.

The organization explains their members in Meridian health plans who show their member ID at the company’s booth will receive a $15 fresh produce voucher. Non-members can receive a $5 fresh produce voucher.

Meridian also said they will provide at the event some healthy recipes, nutrition information, help with basic needs and health education resources. 

The event will take place from 8:00 am � Noon at 2001 W. Main St. in Carbondale on September 14.
