HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL) -- The SIH Mulberry Center is set to break ground on a significant expansion at the SIH Harrisburg Medical Center campus on Tuesday, June 24. This $19.9 million renovation aims to transform mental health care in Southern Illinois.
"The expansion of the SIH Mulberry Center is more than just a building project—it's about creating a foundation for healing that will serve our community for generations to come," said SIH representatives.
The project will increase inpatient capacity from 30 to 42 beds, including 12 private rooms. It will also feature modern healing spaces with renovated Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry wings, updated communal areas, and a refreshed outdoor courtyard.
A new unit will provide specialized medical-psychiatric care for patients with both medical and psychiatric needs. Enhanced care programs will include expanded group therapy, therapeutic activities, crisis care, and improved follow-up care after discharge.
The center will also strengthen community connections with better integration of local support services to ensure continuous care.
Doors open for the event at 5 p.m., and light refreshments will be provided. For more information, visit .
