MARION (WSIL) -- The unemployment rate in Illinois is at a new historic low: 3.7%. Many businesses are still looking for people to hire.
Companies like Priority Staffing recruit businesses who would like to post job openings through their website. HR director Megan Jones says dozens in the region are looking for work right now, and they're hoping to connect them with businesses needing help.
"I would say that we see likely around 100 people a week," she said.
She says clerical and industrial positions are the most popular job interests, along with accounting and engineering.
Black Diamond Harley-Davidson and RV just hosted a job fair last week. Co-owner Shad Zimbro says at least 30 people have sent applications to his stores.
"We're very excited about how it turned out, and, you know, we might have another one in a few months also just to make sure we have all of our bases covered," he said.
Zimbro and Jones both agree that employers keep an open mind when searching for the right candidate.
"You know if you find somebody that you really think is a good fit, grab them while you can cause it's hard to find some of these that are a real good fit, and then maybe find a position for them, see if you might have to make up a position for them," he said.
"Key things that I would suggest is to check out the job skills network on IDES and try to place those candidates that are currently unemployed," she said.
