Counties.

.Levels will continue to fall on the Big Muddy River for the next
week, dropping near to below flood stage by April 21.

For the Big Muddy River...including Plumfield, Murphysboro...
Moderate flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

- At 11:00 AM CDT Monday the stage was 25.9 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
late Sunday evening and continue falling to 19.6 feet Monday,
April 21.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

Hydrant flushing to begin next week in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. � The Carbondale Fire Department will begin hydrant flushing on Monday, April 8. Crews will be working weekdays from 9 a.m. � 4 p.m.

Hydrant flushing will occur at the following intersections:

  • South Illinois and West Grand Avenues
  • South Oakland Avenue and West Chautauqua Street
  • South Wall and East Park Streets

Residents may notice a change in water pressure and possible discoloration. The city says the water is safe to drink. But, if your water is discolored, wait a few hours before doing laundry.
