DU QUOIN, IL (WSIL) - As on Monday, August 30, 2021, Illinois's statewide mask mandate is in place.

Illinois residents must wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are encouraged at crowded outdoor events, though they are not required.

Governor JB Pritzker also announced a vaccine mandate for Pre-K through 12 teachers, students and teachers in higher education and healthcare workers.

Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton (D) says more than 70% of Illinoisans have at least one dose of the vaccine, but goes on to say this pandemic isn't over.

"It's a piece of cloth or a fabric that we're putting over our faces so that our children, especially those who cannot yet get vaccinated can be safe while they're in school," says Lieutenant Governor Stratton.

Illinois's mask mandate is in place until further notice.
