MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 46-year-old woman is dead after a house fire in Mt. Vernon this morning.
The Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse tells News 3 the woman died at Deaconess Crossroads Hospital on Tuesday morning after a house fire.
The Mt. Vernon Fire Department stated the fire took place at 3:35 a.m. on January 7 at 2801 Mannen Street.
The fire department stated the fire was noticed by a Mt. Vernon police officer who saw flames on the back porch area with more flames inside the home.
Area fire departments responded to the fire. Crews started battling the blaze, with one crew tasked with searching the inside of the home.Â
During the search, crews found a resident about 10 feet away from a door and started life-saving efforts. The woman was then sent to Deaconess Crossroads Hospital and later passed away.
The Mt. Vernon Fire Department stated they send their condolences to the family.
