At least four dead after vehicle crashes into after school youth camp building

CHATHAM, Ill. (WSIL) -- Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating a fatal crash at the YNOT After School Camp in Chatham on Monday.

Officers responded around 3:20 p.m. to the scene. ISP said a vehicle drove into the east side of the building, striking multiple people both outside and inside, then exited the west side of the building.

Police said there are four confirmed dead, which are believed to be between the ages of 4-18 years. Three individuals were reported to have been struck outside, and one inside.

Several others were taken to local hospitals, with one transported by helicopter.

The driver, who was uninjured, was taken to a hospital for evaluation, ISP stated.

Walnut Street between Park Street and Gordon Drive is closed until further notice.

The investigation is ongoing.
