Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.The Big Muddy River continues to rise due to heavy rain last week
and over the weekend. The river will crest on Thursday before
starting a very slow fall.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Authorities Urge Motorists to Avoid Area After Crash in Benton

BENTON, Ill. (WSIL) -- Authorities are responding to a traffic crash in Benton on Wednesday afternoon and are informing the public to take another route around it.

The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency alerted the public at 3:10 p.m. on September 18, stating first responders were en route to the intersection of Highway 37 and E. Webster Road in Benton for the traffic crash.

Authorities are informing motorists to avoid the are and take an alternative route when traveling.
