CARTERVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) -- The City of Carterville is warning their residents of a tree trimming scam going around.
City officials said they have been informed of tree trimming companies from outside of the area which have been scamming residents.
City workers state the out-of-the-area tree companies are representing themselves as partners with the city with helping cleaning up debris.
The city said the tree debris and limb removal program is in place to help city residents with the downed limbs and trees from the recent ice storm.
There have been multiple reports of companies and contractors who are reported to have provided false information to homeowners in Carterville.
If there is a contractor going door-to-door, the city says they must get a Peddler's Permit through the city first. They urge residents to ask for a city-issued permit if they knock on your door.
If you have any questions, you can reach out to the City of Carterville at City Hall or through the Carterville 311 app.
