Protesters in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Protesters in Carbondale are part of more than 2,000 demonstrations taking place across the nation in what is predicted as the strongest display of opposition to President Donald Trump's administration since taking office.

It's all part of the No Kings movement. Organizers across the nation stated the movement is an effort to reject “authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of our democracy.

This on the same day as a military parade in Washington D.C. where a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the US Army is taking place; a day which is also Trump's 79th birthday.

Protests were also scheduled in Poplar Bluff, Cape Girardeau, Paducah and Union City across the region.
