Marion officer recovering at home after injured in crash while responding to shooting call

MARION, Ill. -- Police responded to a crash in Marion at the intersection of Route 13 and Route 37 (DeYoung and Court Street) where two people were injured. One of those injured was a Marion officer.

Police were on scene in the early afternoon hours on Wednesday. Police were directing traffic for motorists at the intersection while they investigated the crash.

Marion police said one of the vehicles involved in the wreck was a Marion police officer who was on his way to a report of a shooting.

Police said this crash involved multiple vehicles. The officer, along with a driver from another vehicle, were injured and taken to the Heartland Regional Medical Center.

News 3 learned on Friday, October 6, the injured officer is at home and recovering. Marion Police Chief David Fitts said they expect him to make a full recovery and to hopefully be back on duty sooner rather than later.

Responding to the scene was Marion police, Williamson County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and an area ambulance service.
