BENTON, Ill. -- A phone outage is reported across an area of southern Illinois.
The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said seven-digit phone lines are experiencing an outage Monday afternoon.
Authorities said this outage is affecting emergency communication centers within the county, with the exception of 911 service in Franklin County.
The sheriff's office urges people to call 911 only for emergencies.
We are looking into how widespread the phone outage is and if it affects other counties at this time.
