Police present in Carbondale due to traffic stop

Police presence in Carbondale

UPDATE -- JUNE 27 -- 7:40 a.m. -- Illinois State Police have revealed the presence in Carbondale from Thursday night was due to a traffic stop. 

A representative with the department said officers stopped a car in the 500-block of South Illinois Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. The driver was reportedly cited for lacking a valid driver's license. 

A passenger in the car managed to drive the car home after the stop. 

Police say no other situations occurred in the area at that time. 

ORGINAL STORY -- JUNE 27 -- 8:14 p.m. -- CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A large police presence was in Carbondale on Thursday evening.

Multiple police units, including several Illinois State Police troopers, were on scene in the 500-block of South Illinois Avenue.

This was around 7 p.m. on June 27.
