WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 48-year-old woman was found safe after being reported lost in the woods south of Little Grassy Lake on April 15, 2025. The Williamson County Sheriff's Office responded to the call and launched a ground search, just before 6 p.m.
The sheriff's office said she was in the woods hunting for mushrooms.
Deputies located the woman about a mile into the woods around 7 p.m. She was unharmed and able to hike back with the deputies.
“We are grateful that the person lost had notified someone where she was going and was able to make a call for assistance before her cell phone battery was exhausted,� said Sheriff Jeff Diederich.
The search was supported by Lake of Egypt Fire, which provided an ambulance, UTV, and brush truck.
