CHRISTOPHER, Ill. -- A highway in Franklin County has been named after a fallen firefighter on Tuesday.
The community gathered along IL 148 at Yellow Banks Road on the morning of August 13 to honor fallen firefighter Kody M. Vanfossan, as they renamed a section of the highway after him.
The section of IL 148 around Christopher is now know as Firefighter Kody M. Vanfossan Memorial Highway.
In 2019, Christopher firefighter Kody Vanfossan died while fighting a structure fire.
Every year after, family, friends and the public gather to honor and remember him.
Since Vanfossan's passing, the has formed to honor his memory and raise money for scholarships given to seniors looking into first responder jobs.
