SIAA, SIUA celebrate milestones at Southern Illinois Airport this weekend

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Southern Illinois Airport Authority will soon be celebrating their 75th anniversary, along with a celebration for the 65th anniversary for SIU Aviation.

The anniversary celebration will take place at the Southern Illinois Airport on Sunday, June 1st. 

The airport is offering pilots to fly into KMDH on June 1st for $0.75 off of fuel. Also, you can get a sandwich and a drink at St. Nick's for $7.50. This offer is good from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. only.

The airport opened on June 1, 1950, with one runway, one business, two buildings and eight employees. The Southern Illinois University Carbondale aviation program took flight in 1960. 

The Southern Illinois Airport states they rank as the state's sixth busiest facility with three all-weather runways and 23 buildings.
