LAKE OF EGYPT, Ill. (WSIL) -- Authorities in Williamson County said they ended up recovering a stolen vehicle from Johnson County after responding to a crash Sunday morning.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said their deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash report at 10:15 a.m. on January 26, at the intersection of Lake of Egypt Road and Power Plant Road in the Lake of Egypt area in Williamson County.

After deputies arrived to the scene, they found the vehicle, however, they said the driver, along with any others who may have been in the vehicle, already left the scene.

The sheriff's office checked the registration for the vehicle, along with the VIN number. They also said they contacted the owner who the vehicle was registered to. They said the owner was unaware the vehicle was missing.

A short time later, the sheriff's office said the vehicle was stolen during the overnight hours from Johnson County.

Investigators with both Williamson and Johnson County Sheriff's Offices are now working to find out who stole the vehicle and who was driving it at the time of the crash.
