Two arrested in Carbondale in traffic stop for expired registration, now face felony charges

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Two were arrested in Carbondale after police pulled over a vehicle for expired registration and found a gun inside the car.

Police in Carbondale stopped a vehicle in the 200-block of West Main Street on October 6 at 11:34 p.m. They stopped the vehicle due to an expired registration.

Officers ended up finding a gun inside the vehicle as well.

Christopher A. Timmons, 27 of Colp, was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and expired registration.

A passenger was also in the car during the traffic stop. They were identified as Trance D. Neal, 33 of Carbondale. Neal was arrested for obstructing justice and had an arrest warrant for a failure to appear charge for possession of cannabis.

Both Timmons and Neal were taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
