Two separate vehicle vs pedestrian crashes in Mount Vernon in 3 days results in two deaths

Mount Vernon Police say a man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle this morning on Broadway Street.

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- One person is dead after a pedestrian vs vehicle crash in Mount Vernon on Monday morning.

The Mount Vernon Police Department first alerted the public, stating all lanes of Broadway were closed between 42nd and 44th as of around 9:45 a.m.

They urged motorists to find an alternative route of travel at the time.

Police were on scene investigating a pedestrian vs vehicle crash. This being the second reported pedestrian vs vehicle crash since Friday in the same location.

On the Monday incident, the Mount Vernon Police Chief Trent Page said the pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Illinois State police assisted at the scene as well.

Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse said the pedestrian which died in Monday's incident was identified as Robert Bryan, 65 of Carrier Mills.

On Friday, Illinois State Police reported another pedestrian vs vehicle crash in the same area of Broadway. This also resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
