...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.Very heavy rainfall ranging from 6 to 9 inches fell across the
Big Muddy River basin over the past week. This will keep river levels
elevated over at least the next week. Major flooding is forecast
to develop at Murphysboro this week with moderate flooding at
Plumfield. Crests are expected on Wednesday at both locations.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

* IMPACTS...At 34.0 feet, Many surrounding homes begin to flood.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 11:00 AM CDT Monday the stage was 27.3 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 33.0
feet early Wednesday afternoon.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

...FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT CDT /1 AM EDT/ TONIGHT TO
9 AM CDT /10 AM EDT/ TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 to 30 degrees
expected over most of the region. Everyone should see a 32 degree
low or close to it.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From midnight CDT /1 AM EDT/ tonight to 9 AM CDT /10 AM
EDT/ Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other
sensitive vegetation.

Two shot in Mt. Vernon, police investigating

Mt. VERNON (WSIL) -- Mt. Vernon police are聽investigating a shooting last night sending two victims to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Police tell us it happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the Westmont Apartments on South 34th Street in Mount Vernon.

Police responded to a shots fired call at the location. Soon thereafter, police found shell casings.

Witnesses there reported seeing a vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.

Later that evening, two people with gunshot wounds arrived a the Good Samaritan Hospital according to police. Authorities were called in to investigate.

Both victims were flown to a hospital in St. Louis.

Police tell us the investigation led them to a person of interest in the Garden Glen Apartments where a search warrant was issued for the property.

Later Tuesday night,聽Mt. Vernon Police and the Jefferson County High Risk Team were activated and served the warrant.聽

The person of interest was taken into custody for interview, then released, pending further investigation.

Police are currently searching for a second suspect.

The shooting is still under investigation.
