May 28, 10:28 a.m. -- The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a closure in Murphysboro on westbound Illinois 149 from 5th Street to 7th Street starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, June 2. This closure is necessary for reconstruction and will last until 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 7.
During this period, eastbound Illinois 149 will remain open but will be reduced to one 10-foot-wide lane. Illinois 127 will not be affected. A marked detour will guide drivers around the closure.
Officials urge drivers to pay attention to construction signs, obey speed limits, avoid mobile devices, and stay alert for workers and equipment in the area.
