CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) � The Jackson County Health Department is allowing Illinois residents to properly dispose of household chemicals at a collection event in Carbondale on Saturday, June 7th.
The event will take place at the Banterra Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment only.
Accepted items include:
Paint thinner
Aerosol
Household cleaners
Pesticides, insecticides and herbicides
Automotive fluids
Rechargeable batteries
Solvents and polishes
Pool chemicals
Lawn chemicals
Oil-based paints
E-cigarettes
Propane and helium tanks
Mapp-gas cylinders.
Thermometers, thermostats, and fluorescent bulbs
Items not accepted are latex paint, explosives, ammunition, fireworks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, farm machinery oil, medical waste, electronics, alkaline and lead-acid batteries, appliances, tires, radioactive material, syringes, needles, and medical waste.
Officials say the event will remain as scheduled, regardless of rain.Â
