Kentucky Offering Safe Driver Prizes for Teens

FRANKFORT, KY. (WSIL) –� Governor Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) have launched the Safe Teen Driving Challenge, offering $5,000 in cash prizes to encourage young drivers to adopt safer habits on the road.

With over 47,000 teen-involved crashes in Kentucky over the past three years—resulting in 13,000 injuries and 210 tragic deaths—this initiative aims to turn the tide on preventable accidents.

�As Governor, but also as the dad of two teenagers who I love more than anything, making sure all our drivers are safe on the roadways is a top priority,� said Gov. Beshear. This challenge offers teens a chance to win cash prizes while making our roads safer for everyone.

The challenge, sponsored by AAA Blue Grass and AAA East Central, rewards the top-performing teen drivers with these prizes:

1st Place: $2,000

2nd Place: $1,500

3rd Place: $1,000

4th Place: $500

Winners will be announced in April 2025, with their achievements celebrated as part of Kentucky’s highway safety efforts.

Open to 16-to-19-year-olds with a valid permit or driver’s license, the Safe Teen Driving Challenge is easy to join. Teens (with parental consent if under 18) can:

Participants can monitor their habits, view real-time scores, and compete with peers on a leaderboard updated biweekly.

This challenge combines technology, education, and fun to help teens become lifelong safe drivers, said KYTC Secretary Jim Gray. "The ultimate reward for safe driving is protecting yourself and others on the road.�
