PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- One person is dead after a semi-truck and SUV crash on I-24 on Wednesday morning.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened at 4:49 a.m. on October 16 near the 11 mile marker on I-24.

The sheriff's office said Eric Jackson, 64 of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, was driving a 2005 Mercury Mariner going west when it collided with the front of a 2021 Volvo tractor-trailer.

After attempting to change lanes and colliding with the Volvo truck, the sheriff's office said the Mercury Mariner overturned multiple times.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene by the McCracken County coroner.

Assisting the sheriff's office at the scene was the Mercy Regional Ambulance, Reidland-Farley Fire Department, McCracken County Coroner Amanda Melton, McCracken County DES and Lent’s Towing & Stinnett’s Towing.

The westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for about four hours as authorities investigated the crash.

"Please keep the Jackson family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the McCracken County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
