FROHNA, Mo. (WSIL) --Officials say a lightning strike from recent storms was to blame for fire that destroyed a historic building in Perry County, Missouri.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal confirms lightning struck the Saxon Lutheran Memorial and Heritage Center Sunday night.

Saxon Lutheran Memorial posted to their Facebook page, saying the fire did not spread to other buildings. They also stated everyone involved was safe.

Officials with the Glenn House, a historic site in Cape Girardeau, said the following:

"This site was more than just a collection of historic buildings—it was a living testament to the faith, resilience, and pioneering spirit of early German immigrants who shaped our region. It stood as a bridge between past and present, preserving the stories and culture of the Saxon Lutheran community for generations to come."
