(WSIL) -- A Northern Illinois lawmaker is pushing a bill to make pumping your own gas illegal. Only two other states, New Jersey and Oregon, have similar laws.

"I'm old enough. I was around when it was here, before, so I loved it," said Cleburne resident Vera Restivo.

Illinois House Democrat Camille Lilly filed HB 45-71 earlier this month. It would require workers to pump gas at stations across the state. News 3 talked to consumers in the area to see what they thought.

"Well it would give some more people some work, but depends on what it would do with the price of the fuel," said Tamaroa resident Richard Emling.

Others were not thrilled about the idea.

"People who are perfectly capable of pumping their own gas should be able to pump their own gas. I believe it's taking the freedom of what you want to do," said Herrin resident Allison Buckingham.

"Ridiculous, it's a waste of time and money," said consumer Roxann Hall.

News 3 reached out to representative Lilly to ask why she filed this bill, but have not received a response.
