Man arrested after hours-long standoff in Herrin neighborhood for reported gunshots

UPDATE -- April 26 -- Police arrested a suspect in connection to an hours-long standoff at a home in Herrin early Friday morning. 

Police took Austin Breault, 27, away in handcuffs after almost seven hours. 

Officials have not yet released Breault's charges. Those should come out Friday.

ORIGNIAL STORY -- April 25 -- HERRIN, IL. (WSIL) -- News 3 is working to learn more about the cause of a heavy police presence at a home in the 600-block of South 12th Street in Herrin.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene Thursday evening at 6:57 p.m. where a 28-year-old man reportedly shot a gun and went inside a home, according to the Herrin Police Department.

A News 3 crew at the scene Thursday night stated law enforcement agencies had guns out and blocked off a section of the street. Herrin Police Department stated they are trying to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.

Law enforcement alerted the public to stay clear of the area.

Police said no injuries or damage to any property have been reported, as of just before 11 p.m.

Assisting with the scene is the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the Energy Police Department, the Carterville Police Department, The Johnston City Police Department, the Marion Police Department, the Herrin Fire Department, United EMS and the Williamson County Crisis Negotiation Team.
