FISK, Mo. (WSIL) -- A man is dead after police said he was hit by a semi-truck in the roadway, minutes after he was involved in a separate crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported a crash happened at 1:30 a.m. on November 16, along Highway 60, roughly two miles of Fisk.

State police said a 37-year-old from Scott City was in a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee going east when it crashed into the rear of a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by a 22-year-old from South Carolina.

MSHP said the 37-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle when the crash happened.

According to the crash report, police said the 37-year-old had serious injuries after being involved in this crash. The 22-year-old was said to have minor injuries and was later sent to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Two minutes after this crash, at 1:32 a.m., state police said the 37-year-old was involved in another crash at the same location. In this crash report from the MSHP, the 37-year-old was in the roadway when a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia struck the pedestrian.

State police said Butler County EMS pronounced the 37-year-old dead at the scene at 1:50 a.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported this as the 60th death related to a traffic crash in the southeast Missouri area for 2024.
