...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.The Big Muddy River continues to rise due to heavy rain last week
and over the weekend. The river will crest on Thursday before
starting a very slow fall.

For the Big Muddy River...including Plumfield, Murphysboro...Major
flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is
forecast.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...Until further notice.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:30 PM CDT Tuesday the stage was 28.2 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 30.7
feet early Thursday morning.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

Marion Unit 2 placed on lockdown after threatening note found

Marion school flag

UPDATE: August 31, 2022

The Marion Police department has identified who wrote the threatening letter to Marion High School and the incident has been resolved. 

The investigation is ongoing and all reports are being forwarded to the Williamson County States Attorney's Office. 

ORIGINAL STORY: AUGUST 30, 2022

MARION (WSIL) -- Marion High School received an anonymous threatening note Tuesday.

The letter was found in one of the restrooms. It stated around 1:20 p.m. a group of armed gunmen would enter the High School.

Law enforcement was contacted immediately as a precautionary measure. All other schools were also on lockdown as a precaution even though the threat was specific to the high school. 

All students were released from school on time and police personnel remained on scene until the school was cleared

Detectives with the MPD are looking into this incident thoroughly.
