1 dead, 1 seriously injured after two-vehicle crash

OAK RIDGE, Mo. (WSIL) -- One person is dead and another injured after a two-vehicle crash on Monday evening.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said the crash happened at 4:24 p.m., on December 2, along I-55, north of the Fruitland area.

MSHP said a 29-year-old man from Perryville was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger going south on I-55, with a 28-year-old passenger in the vehicle, when the vehicle went off the road and hit the rear of a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. State police said the Ford Ranger then overturned after it hit the Avalanche.

The 29-year-old driver of the Ford Ranger was reported dead at the scene. The 28-year-old passenger was taken to St. Francis Medical Center with serious injuries.

An 18-year-old from Cape Girardeau was reported as a driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche which was off the road in the crash.聽

MSHP reported this as the 65th death related to a traffic crash for the southeast Missouri region for 2024.
