45-year-old faces murder charge after woman found dead with a gunshot wound

HOWARDVILLE, Mo. -- One person is in custody after a woman was found dead in an apartment building with a gunshot wound on Monday.

The New Madrid County Sheriff's Office said it happened on January 15, at 5:43 p.m. when they responded to Howardville for a call about a female with a gunshot wound.

Once they got there, deputies found a 45-year-old Shannon Mansfield who was lying inside her apartment. The sheriff's office said she had a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead.

Deputies reportedly found a weapon in another apartment close to the scene. 

Shaundale T. Maxwell, 45, was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder and armed criminal action.

Maxwell was taken to the Mississippi County Jail with no bond.
