66-Year-Old Woman Dead After Crash in Missouri Bootheel

PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo. -- A 66-year-old woman is dead and another person injured after a two-vehicle crash near Caruthersville on Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated the crash happened along I-55, roughly one mile south of Caruthersville on Sunday, March 17 at 2:15 p.m.

A 77-year-old from Jackson, Tennessee, was driving a 2004 Toyota 4Runner south on I-55 when it hit the side of a 2021 Honda Pilot, state police said. The Honda Pilot then ran off the road and overturned.

The driver of the Honda Pilot was a 70-year-old from Huntsville, Alabama. He was taken to the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Caruthersville with minor injuries.

The passenger of the Honda Pilot was Joan Walker, 66 of Huntsville, Alabama. She was flown to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis and later died.

This is the fifteenth death related crash for the Troop E area in southeast Missouri for 2024.
