DONIPHAN, Mo. (WSIL) -- People in at least two southeast Missouri cities are dealing with flooding after several inches of rain fell in the area on November 5.
The Doniphan Police Department informed the public on the closure of the Riverfront Park near Current River.
According to the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS) the Current River at Doniphan is expected to crest above the major flooding threshold at 22.5 feet on November 7 at 7 a.m.
Just upstream in Van Buren, the NWPS adjusted the forecast with the Current River levels. The river levels are now forecasted to crest at 24.5 feet at 6 p.m. on November 6. This is in the moderate flooding zone.
On November 5, the Van Buren Fire & Rescue alerted the public of sandbags available for residents there to help protect their property from the rising river levels.
The sandbags are available on the backside of the new courthouse in the upper parking lot. You are urged to bring a truck and trailer.
