POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (WSIL) -- State police are investigating a deadly shooting incident involving an officer in the Poplar Bluff area.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said around 1 p.m. on October 22, a robbery was reported in Ripley County near the Arkansas border.
Officers with Poplar Bluff later found the suspect vehicle near Highway M and Highway 67 and a pursuit then started, MSHP reported. Authorities said the pursuit ended in the area of Highway 67 and Highway PP.
The highway patrol said the suspect then allegedly fired a gun towards officers and the officers did return fire.
The suspect was later pronounced dead, however, authorities said they are looking into whether the suspect was hit by fire from officers or if it was self-inflicted.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident.
