PUXICO, Mo. (WSIL) � Multiple buildings in Downtown Puxico are a total loss after a fire on Saturday.
The Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office said most of the buildings in Downtown Puxico are destroyed after a devastating fire on February 22.
The Dexter Fire Department said 15 fire departments responded to the scene, 13 of which brought tanker trucks. A total of around 150,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire with water coming from tankers filling up in a private pond.
A truck from Bloomfield also used a total of 300,000 gallons of city water, the Dexter Fire Department added.
Assisting Puxico firefighters were fire crews from Bloomfield, Dexter, Advance, Bernie, Oran, Delta, Millersville, Zalma, Sikeston, Wappappello, Scott County Rural, Morehouse, Chaffee and Poplar Bluff. Stoddard County Ambulance District provided medical services as well.
Watkins Funeral, Holloway Gas Mart and other businesses and volunteers provided drinks and food.
“Continued prayers for the city,� Puxico Fire & Rescue stated.
