(WSIL) -- Illinois state Senator Dale Fowler (R-IL 59th Dist.) says his district will grow if the recently-passed legislative maps are signed into law.

Sen. Fowler spoke to News 3 Tuesday morning after announcing a grant to retool the Cottonwood Slough Pump Station north of Cairo. Fowler says Republicans weren't given a 'seat at the table' and were left out of negotiations.

If the map is signed into law, Fowler's district will increase to 14 partial or full states. Fowler says he lost parts of Franklin and Hamilton County but gained ground in Jackson, Union and White Counties. No matter who he represents, Fowler says it's an honor to serve.

"My boundary is changed so I'll have an opportunity to get to meet more people, Fowler said. "I'll be losing Benton. I'll be losing McLeansboro because I'll be losing that northern part of Franklin [County] and the northern part of Hamilton [County."

The maps were passed by both Illinois House and Senate lawmakers on party lines. Fowler says he's excited to meet new constituents but added he'll still support residents from his old district.

[I've] developed a lot of great relationships but you know what I'll still be there for them," Fowler said.
