CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- A local youth organization held a Black Lives Matter march Friday evening.

They protested for justice in honor of Breonna Taylor, an African-American woman from Louisville, Kentucky.

She was mistakenly killed by police in her apartment in March during a no-knock warrant.

The organizer says her mission is to have the police involved in Taylor's death arrested.

"In movements like this it's often times that black women are left behind. We see that trans and queer individuals and low income individuals get left behind so we have to be better this time because we see mistakes being made so we have to keep advocating," said organizer Amari Jackson.

There will be another march Thursday, July 2.

Detective Brett Hankison, the police officer involved in the fatal shooting of Taylor, was fired this week, more than three months after her death.

Her family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
