CARBONDALE (WSIL)---SIU move in is well underway, and for some local Carbondale businesses, they say the return of students is good for two reasons. One, there could be some potential new employees, and two, there could be some new customers coming in.

Quatros Deep Pan Pizza has struggled throughout the pandemic to get workers through the door.

Every year when students return, more people visit the eatery, and owner Steve Payne says this year is following the trend.

While applications aren't being filled out as fast as hoped, it's next week that Payne believes will see the uptick.

"We're seeing some signs initially that it's picking up, interest is picking up a little bit. We've had a few inquiries. Not the flow that I thought we'd have, but again, that's a continuation of what we've seen all summer. But hopefully by next week we'll see some differentiation as kids get settled," said Payne.

As more customers come in, Payne said it's nice to see a quote "light at the end of the tunnel."

Payne also said they have seen a steady flow of new applications and more orders since returning students began coming back to Carbondale at the beginning of the month.
