STATEMENT TEXT

...Cold air funnels will be possible...

Cold air funnels are expected today. These cold air funnels are
developing underneath a few showers that are moving across the
area. Underneath these showers...spinning columns of air that look
like tornadoes may continue to develop. These funnels usually are
very brief and rarely touch the ground. If these funnels do touch
down...they most likely will not cause damage to life or
property.

Cold air funnels are due to very cool air aloft...warm moist air
near the ground...and are usually in association with a strong
area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Due to
little or no wind shear...they are usually weak and very brief.

WSIL (Carterville) -- It's another pleasant January day with overcast skies and average highs in the low 40s. We saw some flurries and a few isolated showers earlier today, but this evening is expected to stay dry.聽

Overnight will be chilly again with lows in the upper 20s. Patchy fog is also possible so take caution if you have any late night or early morning plans.聽

The quiet pattern will continue through midweek. A low pressure will bring rain and rumbles of thunder late Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon. Rainfall amounts will be between half an inch to an inch for most areas.聽

Sorry to any winter weather lovers because for the better part of January, we are still continuing to see a very warm trend.聽
