Road crews ready to respond

MTV ROAD PREPS

MT. VERNON (WSIL) -- Wednesday's rain kept road crews from completing the work they had planned.

"It's raining so hard there's really no pre-treatment that we would do in these kinds of conditions."

Mt. Vernon Public Works Director Matt Fauss is monitoring the rain and temperature. He says he has crews on standby to hit the road if needed.

"We would start off with the higher traffic streets, and, depending on how bad things got, we would branch out from there and hit most of the roads," explained Fauss.

Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis says just because you didn't see much activity Wednesday, doesn't mean crews aren't working hard to keep everyone safe.

"I can assure you they are out working. It's a top priority to keep our citizens safe, cut down on the number of accidents we have. We stress our police department and our fire department when the roads aren't dei-ced," said Lewis.

Fauss isn't the only one watching the weather. IDOT and county highway departments tell News 3 they're monitoring the temperature and have crews on standby to treat the roads if necessary.
