SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (WSIL) -- Two people are dead and four others injured after a four-vehicle crash on Wednesday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated the crash happened at 4:40 p.m. on October 2, roughly three miles south of Chaffee on Highway 77.
MSHP detailed a crash report which shows Meryl Hopper, 29 of Chaffee, was driving a 1996 GMC Sierra going north on Highway 77 when this vehicle crashed into the rear part of a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma then crashed into a 2006 Freightliner. The Freightliner then crossed into the center line which was then hit by a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, which was driven by Debra Buell, 62 of Oran.
Both Hopper and Buell were pronounced dead on the scene, the report stated.
The Tacoma had four people in it, all from Oran and all of which were injured in the crash, state police said.
The 33-year-old driver of the Tacoma was flown to a hospital in St. Louis. The other three passengers were all taken to St. Francis Medical Center with injuries, all classified as moderate.
Hopper was reported as not having a safety device on. All others in the crash had their safety device on.
The Freightliner had minor damage while the three other cars were totaled.
This was reported as the 48th and 49th death related to a crash in the southeast Missouri area, according to MSHP.
