BENTON, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Benton City Council held a meeting on Monday morning to go over a number of items on the agenda.
One of the items they discussed was the approval of the fire department to house a dog named Knox.
After a motion to second the order on the agenda, the council then voted on the approval of the dog to be permanently part of the Benton Fire Department and be placed at the fire station.
All council members voted yes.
As previously reported, Knox the dog has been part of the Benton Fire Department for the past two years. Earlier in December, a city commissioner pushed for his removal on the grounds he was never approved by city council and could be deemed a liability.
Many people and organizations since showed support for the dog to be part of the fire department.
