BENTON, Ill. -- The Benton chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars held its annual Seed Swap event Saturday morning.Â
The event saw a great turnout with an estimated 100 locals coming out to collect seeds to plant in the coming months. Locals had the chance to set up displays to trade their seeds with others. Rural King of Mt. Vernon also donated a lot of these seeds, which were then given away free of charge.
In addition to these seed sources, the local Universities of Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri's Extensions provided harder-to-find seeds.Â
Shagbark Hickory Syrups and Homemade Breads were just two of the goods available at the day's event. Local boys and girls Scouts brought chili to provide. Live performers were also present.Â
The VFW in Benton partnered with members from the out-of-state Extension offices to set up the event.Â
