Child located safe, father in custody, after Amber Alert issued in western Kentucky

PRINCETON, Ky. -- UPDATE: January 29, 1:30 p.m. - Kentucky State Police said the child has been located safely and the father, Byron Black, has been taken into custody.

ORIGINAL: January 29, 10:33 a.m. - Authorities are looking for a man and a 5-year-old child who is missing after a woman found shot and dead in Princeton, Kentucky.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) alerted the public that on January 28, 2024, Kentucky State Police went to a home where the child was known to live at in Princeton, Kentucky.

The NCMEC said an investigation determined that Kelly Black had a gunshot wound to the back of the head and was found dead. Her daughter, Lela Black, 5 of Princeton, was missing and is believed to be with her biological father Byron Black.

Byron Black has an arrest warrant for the murder of Kelly Black, NCMEC stated.

Byron Black is suspected to be armed and dangerous.

NCMEC stated the father and child have not been heard from since Friday, January 26.

The vehicle information connected to this investigation is a white Chevrolet Silverado, with paint peeling off of the hood. The license plate is a California plate with the number 5J83779.

Lela Black is said to be a white female, with brown hair, brown eyes, 3�6� tall and weighing 40 lbs.

Byron Black is said to be a white 42-year-old male, with brown hair, brown eyes, 6�00� tall and weighs 180 lbs.
