JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Motorists were urged to avoid I-57 in Jefferson County on Friday late morning and early afternoon due a three-vehicle traffic crash which resulted in injuries.

Both northbound and southbound I-57 lanes were shut down at the 83 mile marker due to the crash for nearly two hours. As of 1:38 p.m., the northbound lanes opened up, along with one southbound lane.
First responders went to scene as soon as the crash was reported.
Illinois State Police said the crash involved two passenger cars and a semi-truck. The truck caught fire after the crash.
There were injuries reported with this crash.

Franklin County Emergency Management Agency stated traffic was impacted in the Franklin County area also due to this crash as vehicles were backed up for miles.
