CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Carbondale Fire Department responded to a fire at the SIU Student Services building on Wednesday night.

According to the fire department, the fire was started accidentally. A representative from the department said its officials believe the flames originated from a small fridge or microwave inside the building. The appliances as well as a wall and series of cabinets suffered minor damage.

The representative also told News 3 that sprinklers in the room caused water damage.

Fire officials reportedly learned of the fire around 9:00 p.m. The Carbondale Fire Department responded to the scene without help from other departments.

At this time, fire officials have no reason to believe the fire was the result of any suspicious activity.
