MAKANDA, Ill. -- Giant City State Park hopes to keep residents on the hiking trails despite the heat with the Sunup Hikes series.

The Park Naturalist will lead groups through one of eight trails during the early-morning hikes. The paths will range from one to three miles and are described as "moderately difficult" by Giant City.

The park will host two sessions. The first will occur on Friday, July 12, the other on Friday, July 26. Both sessions are scheduled for 6:30-8:00 a.m.

The hikes are free to residents but require registration. Call 618-457-4836 to do so.
