MAKANDA, Ill. -- Giant City State Park will celebrate the Winter Solstice with an evening walk.Â
On the evening of the Solstice, December 21, Giant City will host a walk along the Post Oak Trail. The park is billing this as the chance to walk the park during the sunset as the park usually closes at dusk.Â
"[The stroll] will be a great time to get out, stretch a bit, think about our current place in the solar system, while celebrating the return of more light and longer days," the park said in a press release Sunday.Â
Environmental educator Steve Gariepy will host the walk. It will be about 1/3 mile.Â
Organizers wish to remind those interested in attending to check the weather in advance and dress appropriately.Â
Call the park at 618-457-4836 to register or get more information.Â
